Difference between Situation Statement and Business Need

Tue Jul 13, 2021 3:00 pm

Got this questions -
What is the difference between a situation statement and a business need? does a business need a situation statement after validation?
what format can be used to express it a business need ?

Situation statement explains the problem to be solved or opportunity that need to be explored. It helps to understand the situation properly. It helps that a right solution is identified for the well understood problem/opportunity

Once situation statement is drafted, the next step is to get the approval for it. If stakeholders are agreed that situation mentioned in the situation statement could be a right problem to solve or opportunity to be explored - it becomes the business need.

So Business Need is the approved situation statement.

The format of situation statement is -

The format of a situation statement is as follows:
• Problem (or opportunity) of “a”
• Has the effect of “b”
• With the impact of “c”

As I told once situation statement is approved, it is a business need and same format can be used to describe business need.
