Risk Question

Postby muthugeethanjali Sat Sep 06, 2014 4:36 pm

35. You have been asked to fill in for another project manager while he is on vacation.
During the next project status meeting, you ask for a risk report. The project team
says they have never reported on that before, and are unsure if there is a master
project risk log. What do you do?

A. Do nothing.
B. Develop a list of risks yourself, based on experiences you have had managing
similar projects.
C. Ask the team to brainstorm the risks they think may impact the project.
D. Notify the project stakeholders.

C & D both you have to do, it just a matter of sequence, now in this case since you are new to the project, you may consider sharing the status by informing stakeholders first that things can change since we are doing risk identification. Once done that you get to step where you do the risk identification.

I will go with D. Notify the Stakeholders (because it includes sponsor also; what if project risks are already identified - sponsor is best person to get back first - then followed by option C)

@Saket: I agree that PM should have done both C and D activities. Question in a given scenario which one should be given priority. I believe I would have gone for D first and then to C, since sponsor's "risk attitude/risk tolerance" is important.

What you suggest? Do I make sense?
