CSP Application Process

Postby Atg1000 Wed Mar 23, 2016 1:21 pm

Would like to thank Saket and izenbridge for helping me achieve the 70 SEUs for the CSP application process.

When applying for CSP i had a few questions so documenting those below so that others can gain from it.

The first question was with respect to eligibility.
So to apply to become a CSP, one must satisfy three eligibility criteria -
1) Be a current holder of an active CSM, CSPO, or CSD credential.
2) Have a minimum of 36 months of successful Agile/Scrum work experience gained within the past 5 years implementing Scrum inside organizations as team member, product owner, ScrumMaster, or "Other." (Provide details for "Other" in the "How did you use Scrum on this job" field at the bottom of the Work Experience section of your profile page. Align your experience to the basic Scrum roles as much as possible.)
3) Gather and submit 70 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) from the past three years.

Second was with respect to the application process and the supporting documents/activities to be performed for becoming a CSP. At a high level one needs to perform the following:
1) Achieve 70 SEUs. This is well documented in the forum.
2) Ensure the SEUs earned are reflected in scrum alliance page. Verify the category/sub- category under which the SEUs have been added is correct and so the number of hours(1 hour is equivalent to 1 SEU)
Normally this is added by the trainer from whom one had taken the course. Alternatively it can be added manually. For reading, videos, webinars this needs to be done manually.
3) Fill in all the fields for the activity added with emphasis on field 'outcome' where in one has to write on How has this course or coaching helped us develop as a Scrum practitioner. Be as descriptive as you can using scrum/agile keywords that you learnt from the course(activity) and how it helped you grow as a scrum master.
4) Complete your profile in scrum alliance.
a) write a biography ranging from 500 to 2000 characters. Here one needs to highlight the high points of ones career without going too much into detail about the specifics.
b) write a brief description of the projects worked on. For applying for CSP one needs to have worked in a scrum role(scrum master, product owner, team) for atleast 3 years in the last 5 years. Hence, we need to fill in at least 3 years of scrum projects in the last 5 years we have worked on, filling in other project details is optional. Here again we need to come up with a write up on how our experience in our project supports our case of becoming a scrum professional.
c) contact details of person who can verify the scrum experience
5) There would be an application link for applying to CSP on your scrum alliance dashboard.
a) Associate the SEUs with this application for CSP. Though 70 SEUs are required for the CSP application , however, one can associate more than 70 SEUs as well. Also, ensure that the category constraints are honored. Like the maximum E category SEUs that can be associated with the application are 15, so even if you associate 20 only 15 would be considered.
b) a write up
6) Apply by paying a fees of 100 US dollars. A support ticket would be generated where in you can track the progress of your application.
Scrum alliance would be reviewing your application and can reach out to you for further details. Normally it takes 1-3 weeks for them to get back.
7) If all goes fine you would get a CSP application approval mail.
8 ) Accept the agreement and pay 150 US dollars and one becomes a CSP professional.
