92. Post-mortem analysis after scheduled finish date of a project shows a CPI of 0.8
and an SPI of 1.25. What is a plausible explanation for that?
o The project was terminated early. At that time, it was over budget and ahead
of schedule.
o The project has produced additional deliverables which were originally not
required.
o The project has evidently been finished under budget and behind of schedule.
o The project has evidently been finished over budget and ahead of schedule.
Oliver 175 - 92nd Question
Re: Oliver Q 92 of 175 Prep Questions
Lets understand the definition of SPI
PMBOK Page 219
The SPI at the end of project will be one if it does all the planned work and finishes on scheduled end date or after. SPI of the project at the end can be less than work when it terminated without achieving all planned work EV < PV. but can the SPI be more than one?
In order to have SPI > 1 for finished project it must end before the scheduled end date, because we can not have EV more than PV after the scheduled end date...since EV is just a value of planned work. If you do something extra it does not count in PV
So the answer is from A or D
Now the question is using the negative word "Post-mortem " A wins, because it indicates things did not went well and its a terminated project not the early finished project.
We had discussion on this question sometime back... year 2014. here you can see more details.

Schedule performance index.
The schedule performance index (SPI) is a measure of schedule efficiency expressed as the ratio of earned value to planned value. It measures how efficiently the project team is using its time. It is sometimes used in conjunction with the cost performance index (CPI) to forecast the final project completion estimates. An SPI value less than 1.0 indicates less work was completed than was planned. An SPI greater than 1.0 indicates that more work was completed than was planned. Since the SPI measures all project work, the performance on the critical path also needs to be analyzed to
determine whether the project will finish ahead of or behind its planned finish date. The SPI is equal to the ratio of the EV to the PV. Equation: SPI = EV/PV
The SPI at the end of project will be one if it does all the planned work and finishes on scheduled end date or after. SPI of the project at the end can be less than work when it terminated without achieving all planned work EV < PV. but can the SPI be more than one?

thanks for your explanation, still I have one question, how come I will have more work(EV) than plan (PV), as any additional requirement / work will be added to scope hence to plan (PV) after approved change request?
is that because scope creep or Gold Plating?
Saket, Manish, could you please clarify?
any additional scope is needed to be added to scope baseline /WBS before team can start work on it, hence always EV at the end should equal to PV?!

I think this is the case in gold plating or scope creep? right? please elaborate more ?
