Scrum Master or Product Owner

Postby sundara.damaraju Mon Jul 11, 2016 10:20 am

Hi Saket,

Can you help me on this?

Which team member should lead or facilitate the sprint review?

I marked the answer as Scrum Muster. Surprisingly it is wrong. THe explanation given is

Because the product owner is responsible for ROI and has the most knowledge on what the complete objectives are for a product, the product owner should lead the sprint review. [Agile Project Management with Scrum. Ken Schwaber.]

Can I have your commnets? Per your sessions Scrum master is the facilitator.

Regards,
Sundar.

What is the source of your question?

In general, Scrum Master facilitate the meeting to keep the meeting within the time-box. Before knowing who does facilitation for other things, it is important to know that this is an informal meeting, not a status meeting, and the presentation of the Increment is intended to elicit feedback and foster collaboration.

Following are the activities involved in Sprint Review, which will give you idea the role of Product Owner in Sprint Review:

Attendees include the Scrum Team and key stakeholders invited by the Product Owner;
- The Product Owner explains what Product Backlog items have been “Done” and what
has not been “Done”;
- The Development Team discusses what went well during the Sprint, what problems it
ran into, and how those problems were solved;
- The Development Team demonstrates the work that it has “Done” and answers
questions about the Increment;Attendees include the Scrum Team and key stakeholders invited by the Product Owner;

Sundar, Scrum Master facilitate the meeting for the adherence of Scrum practices and Product Owner facilitate the meeting for product demo. But the key thing it is informal meeting and Development Team also involved to provide demo as it is their pride who developed the increment.
