Technical Debt question in webinor

Postby anilkro Wed Jun 15, 2016 10:13 am

In "Technical Debt" PMI-ACP webinar series, during quiz ( time frame 43.58 ), following is the question

Which of the following represents the BENEFIT of technical dept

a) High velocity in current iteration

b) Adoptable Product

c) Low maintenance cost

d) None Of above

My analysis:

Option D is taken-out as I see better answers in a, b and C options.

I feel option A also should be out & incorrect , because question is about BENEFIT , increase in velocity is related to Sustainable Pace between team and customer agile principle, and i doubt, increase the velocity in current iteration is really benefit.

So now between b & c: All agile principles highlights the basic element as "Product", and the managable technical debt also gives better chances of having adoptable product by "TEAM" and then "Customer" whould like to go for b :)

So i go for B, while correct answer was A.

Could you please correct me?

Hello,

Its between A and B.

I agree with your argument about option A. But the benefits is short term only for option A and it will be exposed in next iteration.

But again Option B has its own limitation. How can a product will be adoptable if it has lot of Technical Debt?

Cheers,

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Having some portion or % of technical debt( But for sure that should be reasonable amount :) as far as functionality works) ,does not harm inspection and adoption of the product features @ iterations demos or DOD is well agreed and Acceptance Test cases ( That are written by Customer/Product Owner) are passed. :).

So I feel, Option B would be fine as for as this (% or amount) known technical debt does not create issues for Product acceptance. :)

Best regards,
Anil

You already get essence , that technical debt gives you short term benefit sometime but you have to pay the debt, and it is true for financial debt as well and that is the metaphor is about.

you can go with Option A but keep in mind this is very short term benefit, since it will reduce velocity in future
