Stories are no replacement for requirements - Quiz

Postby Sowjanya Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:43 am

Question:
I was going through the quiz section.
I am little confused with the following question.
True/False: Stories are no replacement for requirement. You need another way of getting details, whether through expert customers or a requirements document(the traditional way)

I feel all the requirements should be coming as a user story for agile teams. So have selected false. It shows wrong answer.

Answer:
user stories has been treated as tool to
extract requirement but the requirement on their own, it has been
treated like that Conversation part of 3 Cs gets requirement, the card
is just a starting point.

the idea is we should not consider User Stories same like way of documenting requirement, the focus is here on conversation, so the requirements are captured via conversation not from the document of user story, that is why it has kept as small size

To COmpliment Saket.

User stories describe a functional behaviour in a specific format 'as an X, I want Y so that Z.'
Hoever details non functional requirements are not captured which maybe also linked to functional requirement

for e.g.
As a Admin user I should be able to generate report of my students so that I can have a view on their study progress .
However it may not mention which kind of report, how fast, how many pages of report etc-

This is precisely why you need to discuss each user stories in details with PO/Customer to be able to develop tasks related to user stories.

Hopw this adds to Sakets Answer
