Slack.

Postby kumar.ganeshv Mon Oct 08, 2018 6:04 am

What is Slack ?
The only explanation provided is :
"Slack- XP recommends that in any plan it is better to include some minor tasks that can be dropped if you get behind. You can always add more stories later and deliver more than you promised." By any chance its similar to the term used in traditional project management.

In XP, the goal of each weekly cycles is to have running tested features by completing selected stories. Each iteration is time box and in this period team needs to produce something to show to the customers for feedback.

Now as you have a fixed period for running and tested work, in case you feel that stories which you have selected taking time and you won't be able to show them in time box period, you can leave some low priority task to finish important work. Because you want to complete priority work first, and by dropping low priority task, you can get some capacity for high priority task.
