I don't know what is 'Project Float'. There is a free float, and there is a total float. I tried searching for term 'project float' in PMBOK but could not find it. But below statement confuses me -
'Delaying activity 1 can delay the project without delaying overall project finish date.' Is it not a paradox - delay the project without delaying its end date? I think the wording is wrong. It should be 'Delay of 6 days in activity 1 does not delay the project finish date'.

Nope. I still don't understand concept of project float... Does it mean that customer says to finish the project by 31st Dec, you as a PM plan to deliver by 30th Nov, then project float is 1 month?
And again 'internally' since you have planned to finish project by 30th Nov, you plan your activities in such a way, that if an activity is delayed by 15 days, then project is delayed by 15 days - so it is completed by 15th Dec - which is 15 days late as per your plan, but still meets customer imposed date. So the total float of your project is 15 days?
Confusion is between Total Float and Project Float...

Project float: (Dealing with project as a hole not activity) let assume your project base-lined at 30th Nov. and final delivery date to customer is 15 dec. so you have the time flexibility of 15 days you can delay the project by 15 days. if final delivery date to customer is 15 Nov. then you have negative float of 15 days.

Project Float is a term sometime used for the float between schedule and externally committed date or milestone. Like your project is showing finish on 15 June but you have committed 20 June to external stakeholders , this can be known as project float.
