Conflict Management - Short Term & Long Term resolution

Postby shaibajit Fri Nov 24, 2017 12:30 pm

Out of the 5 techniques, which all provides temporary solution?
PMBOK 5 says - Compromising gives Temporary solution to Conflict Resolution.

I have seen Saket's video on Conflict managment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWcFCaUKX2k). He says Smoothing & Withdrawal are First Level of Conflict Resolution and after applying these & afterwards we should move towards applying Collaborating or Compromise. In that case, does it mean that Smoothing or Withdrawal resolves the conflict temporarily? And for permanent solution we should try for Collaborating or Compromise?

In my understanding Withdrawal, Smoothing and Compromising - all 3 of them provides short time resolution. Can anyone clarify it pl?

Withdrawal is basically avoiding or delaying it does not solve conflict .
smoothing may solve the conflict permanently as well if the party who has conceded the position does not pursue the case any further , however in most case the solution is temporary as its not win win , but give PM enough time to find a permanent resolution
