Change Control

A regularly scheduled inspection of the manufacturing line is completed and has noted that a key piece of machinery is showing signs of wear and damage much earlier than expected. A change request has been submitted to be reviewed by the Change Control Board to interrupt product manufacturing in order to replace the damaged parts of machinery. This unscheduled repair will take the entire manufacturing line down for two weeks. Without the repair the machinery could fail and cause more extensive damage resulting in a much longer and more expensive work stoppage. The CCB approves the change request and schedules the repair work to be completed as soon as possible. This is best described as:

a. Corrective action
b. Defect repair
c. Preventive action
d. Monitoring and Controlling Project Work

Correct Answer : Option C

Can Saket or Manish Justify please!

this one a thin line between defect repair and preventive.
'showing signs of wear and damage much earlier than expected' 'order to replace the damaged parts of machinery'

the above information makes me more inclined towards defect repair as an option

a. Corrective action:-Corrective action is after prevention. Prevention is already take as machine wear and tear happened before expected time.
b. Defect repair:- defect of product not produced yet thus ,it is not valid.
c. Preventive action:- Wear and tear is identified much earlier than expectation, thus there might be preventive action taken before.

Experts suggestion required.
Thanks

'order to replace the damaged parts of machinery', when a part of machine is damaged it may be called as defect, although it is not a defect in deliverable, thats the reason I said its difficult to decide.
c. Preventive action:- Wear and tear is identified much earlier than expectation, thus there might be preventive action taken before.

The answer option should be preventive action and defect repair. That would be the best answer. Unfortunately, those questions make people fail in the exam! As mostly fail for 10 to 20 questions . That does n't mean your knowledge is limited. I think PMI should take out confused questions from their data base in regular basis!
