Getting Resource commitments.

Postby nirajsys@gmail.com Thu Sep 21, 2017 2:37 am

Hi Manish,

Rita says that meeting with managers to get resource commitments is part of planning process group....pg.95 in project management processes.

However, this acquire project team which deals with confirming HR availability and obtaining the team comes under the executing process group.

Can u clarify how does it belongs to planning process group?

In my point of view PMBOK 5 , Section 9.1.3.1 says , HR management Plan creates
1. Roles and Responsibilities
2.Project Organization Chart
3.Staffing Management Plan - Which is a component of Human Resource Management Plan describe when and how the project team will acquired and how long they will be needed.
Includes : Staff Acquisition, Resource calendars, Staff Release plan , compliance , safety management etc.
Those covers commitment (Rita says that meeting with managers to get resource commitments is part of planning process group....pg.95 in project management processes.).

Hopefully that clears the confusion.

Manish can clarify more!

Lets assume you are PM assigned to project in May
planning phase is june and july and execution will most likely start from August
injune and july you will meet HR and other line managers to secure the resource commitment from August onwards, this is planning

When you actually start getting resources in your project from August its acquire project team.

Note that some of the resources can also be pre allocated to project to help PM in planning
