### Mock Test

Project performance trend is shown below, if BAC is \$29 Mn, total duration 12 months, Planned value at end of month 2 was \$ 8 Mn and at the end of 4 month was \$ 10 Mn. As a project manager what should your focus be ?

A. No need to worry project performance is good

B. While SPI is improving your CPI is below 1. You need to focus on improving CPI

C. While CPI is improving your SPI is deteriorating, You need to focus on improving SPI

D . While SPI is improving your CPI is deteriorating but is still > 1. You need to focus that CPI remains healthy while your SPI improves >1.

Please explain, how to resolve this.

Hi,

Option b seems to be apt choice.

As seen from graph,SPI is increasing and if we calculate CPI it remains constant at 0.5 but is less than 1 throughout.

A correction,my oversight in previous post...

CPI at 2 months wud be 4/2 =2
and CPI at 4 months wud be 10/8= 1.25

So CPI>1,but deteriorating.

SPI is increasing as seen from graph.

Hence option D is the correct one.

SPI at the end of 4 month = .9 <1 Still less

CPI at the end of 4 month

SPI = EV/PV

EV(4) = SPI X PV =.9 x 10 = 9M so CPI(4) = EV/AC =9/8 =1.125

CPI at the end of 2 month

EV(2) = SPI x PV =.5 x 10 =5 M ; So CPI(2) = EV/AC = 5/2 =2.5

From the example above CPI is detoriating but still > 1 but SPI =.9<1 PM has to improve SPI in the meantime have a watch on CPI.
Hence Option D is the right choice!

PV(2) is 8. How you have utilized it as 10.
