Status Report & Progress Reports

Postby mehtasahilc Mon Feb 29, 2016 7:55 am

Can any explain the difference between Status Reports & Progress Reports

I know both of the reports by definitions.

Status Reports = It represents the Current status of the Project

Progress Reports = It represents the work that has been accomplished till now.

But can any one explain with example. I am unable to get the thin line difference between these two

PMP exam is not going to check the thin line. :)

Progress is more linked with Trend... what is the progress in last 3 months... status is where do we stand at this moment.

You manage a year long project which has moved into the execution stage since last 5 months. recently a senior manager has requested a bi-weekly information that explains where the project currently stands relation to baselines, therefore you will update communication management plan and add new report. which report will it be.

1. status report
2. progress report

I am guessing its a status report. key word "currently" stands ? pls correct me if i am wrong.

Thank you

The question is not clear. If reports need to be generated relating to baselines, it will usually show completion to date metrics (schedule, cost, work), in that way it is a progress report.
A progress report can also include the status of previously reported issues, risks, dependencies, etc
