Termination\cancellation of the project

Postby vivek3377 Thu Oct 01, 2015 2:50 am

I came across this statement -
There are four fundamentally different ways to close out a project: extinction, addition, integration, and starvation
But could not get explanation around what each term means. Can anybody explain?

Here are the explanations:

Extinction : type of project ending that occurs when the project is completed and accepted by the stakeholders

Starvation : type of project ending where resources are cut off from the project.

Integration: type of project ending where the resources of the project are reassigned to other projects or other activities within the organization

Addition: type of project ending that occurs when projects evolve into ongoing operations

I am still not clear with the difference between Starvation and Integration. When the resources are cut off from one project, they will go to work on the other projects or organizational activities. So what's the difference?

There is no need to know from PMP point of view. however to clear your confusion.
Starvation and Integration

Starvation is where project funding by sponsors stops and project die down its natural death, Sponsors dont pre maturely terminate the project due to political reason.
Termination by integration happens for successful projects where its resources resources are integrated into and distributed into different sections of organization. This basically means line organization takes over the future functionalities that are follow up activity of the project

not necessarily, project success is dependent on if it has achieved its objectives or not
