That's a too much of long answer you are asking, but it is required to keep check on progress of project. Planning is iterative.
Have you heard of Variances (schedule/cost) and their impact, trends. I would suggest to read them you will find answer yourself.

I am aware of variances and their impact on the project. However my understanding is that after performing all type of project analysis (Reserve analysis, trend analysis, EVM and variance analysis etc. ) in monitoring and controlling phase, PM communicates the project performance report to all the required stakeholders in the same phase. Then how it is communicated in executing phase ? If you can provide a short description that would be helpful.

Please refer to the Figure 3-1 , Page # 50 , PMBOK Guide Fifth Edition , Monitoring & Controlling Process is the Process which works as a back ground (or like a umbrella) to all the other Processes. It can interact with all other processes at any time within the Project Boundary. This is a vital concept which PMBOK Guide provides.

Project Performance in the execution phase will help a project manager to ensure that the project is being executed as per the plan (against baselines of Cost, Scope and schedule) . Also note that monitoring and Controlling is a parallel and continuous activity hence it overlaps at execution stage as well.
Performance report at the execution stage will also enable the manager to further forecast or make any necessary changes in the previous plan as and when required.
