Corrective / Preventive question - Scorodo Lite14

Postby kniraj Wed Dec 17, 2014 6:54 am

During a project update meeting, one of the key stakeholders expressed his displeasure over the recently produced deliverables. 1% of the produced deliverables had minor defects. This stakeholder has been a resisting stakeholder so far. What must the project manager do in order to bring the future project performance in line with the approved quality requirements?

Investigate the root cause and identify the required defect repair.
Investigate the root cause and identify the required preventive action.
Investigate the root cause and identify the required corrective action.
Ignore the complaint from the resisting stakeholder.

As per me it should be preventive action but Scorodo says corrective action and gives the below explanation... but to get anything in line with 'future' performance would be preventive right ? Do we have different definition for actions by stakeholders and different for such changes in general ?

"C - If any stakeholder, resisting or supporting, identifies any issue, it must be addressed. Since the defects have already been identified and the scenario is talking about an action that would bring the future project performance in line to the approved quality requirements, this is a corrective action. Hi Neeraj,

Since the Issue has already Occurred, it would be an corrective action as Corrective Action is a future response to the defect repair process or the correction, so that the cause of error or non-conformity will not occur again. In corrective action, a problem has occurred and you try to make sure that this problem should not reoccur.

Preventive Action is an action that is taken to avoid any anticipated future defects that may appear in the component. In preventive action, a problem has not yet occurred. You simply take some measures so that any problem should not occur.

Defect Repair is a process of repairing the defective part or replacing it, in case of any discrepancy or non-conformity.

Hope this addresses your question.
Regards,

Amit.
