Control risk

Postby dipti5ece Mon Dec 01, 2014 8:34 am

Hi

Can some one explain me why WPD and WPR are both inputs to control risk?

It can be just WPD right. ? Why WPR comes in picture here......

Thanks,.

hi Dipti,

As we could clearly see from Figure 11-21 , Page # 349 PMBOK5 , WPD comes from Direct and Manage Project Work process , whereas WPR comes from the Monitor and Control Project Work process.

The various performance results from execution which might have impacted by the risk can be:
Deliverable status > whether the particular work package is completed or partially completed
Schedule progress > what is the percentage of actual progress as on data date
Costs incurred > How much is the cost incurred as on data date
Now , in the Control Risk process , these data are if necessary reassessed, analyzed , evaluated for improving the efficiency of the risk approach. This comes out in the form of WPI , which is forwarded to M & C Project Work process.

On the other hand , WPR from M & C Project Work process consist of variance analysis , earned value data and forecasting data. These help in the Control Risk process for controlling the performance related risk.

This is my understanding so far. Expert comments are most welcome.

Thanks
Regards ,

This is not only the case of Control Risk but many control process takes WPD and WPR as an input, we had discussion on this topic here....

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=253&p=768

The basic idea is, each control process is responsible of generating Work performance Information for its own knowdlege area ,for that it always need Work Perforamance data ( else which process will make work performance information for risk related data) , and if the control process is also looking at overall project health it needs Work Perforamnce Report to get that.
