Hi, i have a question regarding the input for WBS. During the creation of WBS we decompose the actual work which is detailed in Project Scope Statement, then why do we need Requirements documentation as an input to Create WBS. Because we have already used Requirements Documentation to create Project Scope Statement and this Project Scope Statement is what we need to perform in order to achieve project objective. Please explain. Thanks!!

This is interesting for few sections of PMBOK where we have used some artifact in last process and used the same for next also.

So rationale here for requirement documentation is when we are putting in WBS shape, we can evidently make out the requirements if we missed something in scope statement. So requirement documentation is added to emphasize that requirements are closely looked at as this is the last stage where we are working on requirements.

Same things you will get in some other processes as well where Project management plan is input and some subsidiary plan is also there. Idea is just to emphasize that for that process what is required.

In reality we keep going back to requirement document not only while creating WBS but also when we are developing the product , lot of time we need to look at the requirement to understand the scope... and that is why most of the time it is used.

The PMBOK also says the same

Detailed requirements documentation is essential for understanding what needs to be produced as the result of the project and what needs to be done to deliver the project and its final products.

so when we work on detailing Scope in WBS we need to have requirement document along.
