Which of the following best describes decomposition?
A. Waiting for a task to expire so that it can break down into smaller tasks
B. Taking a deliverable and breaking it down into the smaller work packages so that it can be organized and
planned
C. Categorizing work packages
D. Dividing work packages into deliverables that can be planned for

Headfirst, B. My doubt - Question doesn't specify WBS. Actually in "Define Activities" process also, T&T "Decomposition" is used. In the light of this. can D also be right?

In WBS by decomposition deliverables are broken down into smaller Work packages , whereas in Define Activities deliverables/workpackages are further broken down into manageble work activities.
I hope my explanation should be OK.
So option #(B) is correct. You may refer Page#151 , Para.6.2.2.1 of PMBOK5 for the Decomposition part.
