PMP CERTIFICATION

Postby M L Dahima Tue Jul 01, 2014 3:57 am

Hi Saket,
I achieved my first milestone on PMP journey yesterday.
Yesterday I appeared for PMP exam. and cleared it.
Thanks to you and your highly efficient team for helping me and guiding me so that I could clear the exam. in first attempt itself.
I used Izenbridge team as a fall back source for getting all my sundry queries clarified now and then.
Thanks for all the support I got.
Some lessons learning I did during the preparation phase and writing exam.that I would like to share.

No doubt questions are tricky but if concept part is clear, there is absolutely no problem.

For example there was a question(different wording - I can not recollect exact sentence) :
Your company has a system that you should punch your card everytime when you enter and when you exit from the building.Your company believes in
Theory X
Theory Y
Moslow theory
Theory of needs

Then there was another question like
Location A - 6 stakeholders
Location B - 4 stakeholders
Location C - 10 communication Channels
How many shareholders are there in total.

For answering such question, only clear concept will help and no formula or memory power will help.
All study material that is available to you , should be used as a tool for learning only.Exam. is not a problem.
I can summarise as - clear the concept and do time management in the exam for that some practice is necessary.

One more tip that I got from Rita --
whenever you are answering question-- think yoursely as a Project Manager in the situation given in question.
You will find the right answer most probably.

Thank you once again Izenbridge team.

Congrats Dahima. Well done.

Question 1:Your company has a system that you should punch your card every time whenyou enter and when you exit from the building. Your company believes in

Theory X
Theory Y
Moslow theory
Theory of needs
Answer is X (there is no other choice).

When the technology available they introduce new technology for easy to maintain ground rules.
Whether he is following company rules of work hours or not. But, this punching system is not the system to watch the employees are dislike to work(Theory X).
This punching system in not watching the employees sleeping in the work place or doing the times pass.

Instead of punching system if the company installed the CCTV around the working place and watching the employees activities,
In this case we can say the company believes in Theroy X.

Question 2: Then there was another question like
Location A - 6 stakeholders
Location B - 4 stakeholders
Location C - 10 communication Channels

How many shareholders are there in total.

Ans :
Finding of stakeholders from given communication channels formula as follows:

No.of Stakeholders=ROUND_to_zero_decimal(SQRT(Double the No.of Communication Channels))+1
No.of Stakeholders = ROUND_to_zero_decimal(SQRT(10*2))+1
No.of Stakeholders = ROUND_to_zero_decimal(SQRT(10*2))+1
No.of Stakeholders = ROUND_to_zero_decimal(SQRT(20))+1
No.of Stakeholders = ROUND_to_zero_decimal(4.47)+1
No.of Stakeholders = 4+1
No.of Stakeholders = 5

Total No.of Stake holders=6+4+5=15

Note : No.of given stakeholdes should be according to n*(n-1)/2 otherwise wrong results.
Assume no of communications is 2,4,5,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,16 etc or wrong communications.

Find out No.of stakeholders from No.of Stakeholders communications channels as follows:

Formula: No.of Stakeholders=ROUND_to_zero_decimal(SQRT(Double the No.of Communication Channels))+1

190=Round(SQRT(190*2))+1=Round(SQRT(380))+1=19+1=20 Stakeholder.
300=Round(SQRT(300*2))+1=Round(SQRT(600))+1=24+1=25 Stakeholder.
1176=Round(SQRT(1176*2))+1=Round(SQRT(2352))+1=48+1=49 Stakeholder.
3160=Round(SQRT(3160*2))+1=Round(SQRT(6320))+1=79+1=80 Stakeholder.
4005=Round(SQRT(4005*2))+1=Round(SQRT(8010))+1=89+1=90 Stakeholder.
24090=Round(SQRT(24090*2))+1=Round(SQRT(48180))+1=219+1=220 Stakeholder.

what about this method:

n(n-1)/2 = channels ( 10 as given)

n(n-1) = 20

two consecutive nos. whose multiplication is 20 to be found, bigger is no. of stakeholders.We can easily find the combination 5x4

Take other example :

n(n-1)/2 =45 channels

n(n-1)=90

it can be 10x9 only.

This will save valuable time in exam.

This can also be calculated as follows :
n(n-1)/2= 10
=> n(n-1)=20
=> n^2 - n -20 =0
If we consider n=5 , then 5^2 -5 -20 =0 , which satisfies the equation.
So , n=5 for location C & so on.....

Congrats. Thanks for your valuable post.

Just want to know more experience about the exam, is that the exam questions is mostly on situational basis or Lengthy questions which we need to spend more time to read.
and
the real exam questions are like iZenbridge or Rita mulcaphy or Christpher corodo or its different from all?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you Arun.
is that the exam questions is mostly on situational basis or Lengthy questions which we need to spend more time to read

Yes, few lenghty questions(not mostly) are there.But there are also some questions(Three or four) where the situation given has nothing to do with the question asked.If you spend more time in understanding the situation given in first reading, you may feel that that was the sheer wastage of time.I will suggest that such lenghthy question, you first have a cursory reading,then you see the question asked.If you feel that situation is relevant, then you can have second look on the situation.
My feeling is that situational/lenghthy questions are not difficult to answer.But the questions are intelligently framed and if your concept part is clear, you do not have any problem.

the real exam questions are like iZenbridge or Rita mulcaphy or Christpher corodo or its different from all?

This is difficult to conclude like this.These questions help you in your understanding the concepts in different ways and your confidence level increase- that's it.
You use these tests in enhancing your endurance,fast understanding particular situations given.
Only then, mock tests are useful.

All the best.
