Cleared PMP exam on 9th Mar

Postby contact.neeraj Wed Mar 11, 2015 8:08 am

Hi all,

Finally I cleared PMP examination on 9th March. Would like to thank Indu for her wonderful classroom program and Saket for setting up an entire ecosystem in forms of video's, question banks and discussion forum to support PMP certification.

I have not been an active member of this forum, but have referred to the content posted here when in doubt and it really helped me a lot. Hence as my contribution, sharing my learnings:

Preparation Time :

1. Started in Sep'14, read through PMBOK and took izenbridge classroom program.
2. lost track of preparation in between and picked up the books back in Feb'15 and finalized exam date to commit myself
3. Took 3 weeks off from office and studied for 2 hours on a daily basis otherwise.

Preparation strategy:

1. Classroom session helped a lot. It helped me to cover, understand and study PMBOK.
2. Used Rita as foundation and Scordo to test my understanding
3. I had created a brain dump, included o/p of each process and what are key components of each of the O/p. It looks daunting at first to memorize but if you read any pmp book 2-3 times you will remember half of these.
4. Focussed on learning tools and techniques and their application for eg, difference between focus groups and facilitated workshops,
5. Learned Initiating and closing knowledge area's inside out.

On exam day:
1. I wrote down all the knowledge area's and formulae on the scratch paper. It did help me to calm down my nerves and served as a 'warm up' for the exam.
2. Based on mock test, had realized that i can best focus for 60-70 min at a stretch. I did that and took 5-10 min break at 1 hour interval to refocus.
3. was able to complete test in 2 hour 30 min. used remaining time to review the answers.

Key point: Izenbridge question bank and options to review answers was extremely helpful. I did lot of other exams, almost everything i could find on internet. Izenbridge question bank is quite close to the real thing. I used Scordo to build confidence and izenbridge to benchmark.

Finally, got the result as 5P's :)
