Salience Model

Hi Seema
In Chapter 17: PMBOK View of Stakeholder Management : Identify Stakeholders

I have understand that Salience Model is a table of relative importance based on the rank of stakeholders parameters like power ,urgency,legitimacy.

1-would you please give further explanation for Salience Model?
2-are we expected to see questions in PMI PBA about Salience model?

Detailed understanding of this model is not needed for the exam. However here is the explanation:

Sailance model helps you to understand the varying stakeholder's expectations. You may have many stakeholders, and you need to prioritize them using parameters. Salience model uses three parameters:
Power: It is about stakeholders influence on outcome
Legitimacy: It is about authority, level of involvement in the project
Urgency: It is about time expected for response to their needs

The above three parameters give a view of stakeholders needs and expectations

A. Core: These are the critical project stakeholders and need a focused attention
B. Dominant: These stakeholders have power and legitimacy but do not have urgency. They need focused attention based on their response time need.
C. Dependent: They don't have power, but they have expectations and need to manage accordingly.

D. Dangerous: They are not directly involved in the project but have power, thus they need to manage. For example, a senior person is trying to put his views on the project without being part of it. Such stakeholders appropriately engaged or satisfied.

E. Latent: These stakeholders only involve, if there is something has gone horribly wrong.
F: Demanding: Always need immediate attention
G: Discretionary: Need regular status update
H: Non-stakeholders: Do not invest time in them.
