PMI-PBA: Difference between Data Dictionary and Glossary

Postby akanksha.ashar5 Sun Sep 04, 2016 3:47 pm

Hi Seema,

Need to understand difference between data dictionary and glossary. Also, the significance of each of these tools in their respective context. I am bit not clear on how are they different. if you could also share examples to differentiate the same would be great. Thanks.

Glossary: It shows an alphabetical list for a domain with the definitions for those terms. Like at the end of Business Analysis Practice Guide, you have definitions of all the terms which are good for the exam.

Data Dictionary. A business analysis model that catalogs the attributes of specific data objects. A data dictionary is a tabular format and shows data fields and attributes of those fields. Common attributes include name, description, size, and validation rules. However, any relevant attributes can be captured in a data dictionary.

For more details, please refer page number 108 of Business Analysis Practice Guide.
