Project Vs Product Scope

Postby seema.sonkiya Wed Apr 08, 2015 5:13 am

As per PMBOK5 Product Scope is defined as:

Product Scope: The features and functions that characterize a product, service, or result.

Product Scope focus on functionality of the product, which are described by behaviors of the same. It defines the features, how it will work and it will look like.
For example if a product is a Job website, the product scope might be candidate profile submission, searching, job notification etc.

As per PMBOK5 Project Scope is defined as:

Project Scope:The work performed to deliver a product, service, or result with the specified features and functions. The term project scope is sometime viewed as including product scope

Project Scope normally includes determining schedule, budget, resource allocation, communication needs, and stakeholder management etc.

All of these activities are needed to deliver a successful product and covers the project scope. Product is the outcome of the project.
