Risk mitigation

Postby ragavendrak Fri Feb 17, 2017 6:34 pm

During planning the iteration, the team is discussing items such as requirement priority, effort required to complete the user stories, team bandwidth, and potential risks. When the risks are identified, the team also defining appropriate mitigation actions. Where these mitigation actions team can maintain?

1.The mitigation actions need to be maintained in the Product Backlog

2.The team can maintain a risk register to store information about risks and their mitigation strategies.

3.The team can use iteration backlog to maintain these mitigation strategies

4.The team needs to convert them in the user stories to keep them in the iteration backlog.

Ans: 3

Can you please clarify the differnce between 3&4 , my understanding is that both are saying need to maintain in iteration backlog. so here iteration backlogs contain the user stories.

So why ans 4 is not the best choice here?

In the case of iteration backlog, It is not always necessary to convert risk response strategies in user stories. For example, if a risk is identified that team may not complete all the work which is expected by the customer. In that case, the team commits less for the iteration as a mitigation strategy.

Another example, during the workshop, a risk is identified that if team add an urgent user story, they may not be able to reach the iteration goal, so as for risk response strategy, PO may remove another user story.
