Query on User Stories...

Postby saket Wed Aug 27, 2014 10:58 am

I have one query related to User Story, in case of complex user story , in the study material it is written:

“A company can pay for a job posting with a credit card” but none of the developers has ever done credit card processing before. They may choose to split the stories like this:
Investigate credit card processing over the web.
A user can pay with a credit card.
It means a single user story is splitted into two . Right?

But as per user story definition it should have some value to the user or customer
and in this case first part "Investigate credit card processing over the web" it does not have any value to user or customer.

As per my understanding it should not be added in User Story but needs to be treated as task.

Please clarify.

Here i clarify ,

Yes you are right the first story is not giving value to end user and it can be task if this story is not treated as COMPLEX Epic, the complex epic are divided in investigation and development .

The investigation story can be called Spike , and technical spike stories does not give direct value to end customer and they do not follow normal definition of done.
