Validate Scope

Postby harin4627 Mon Jun 02, 2014 2:44 am

When does the validate scope to be done?
Answer is given as at the end of each project phase. Is it correct? We may get the deliverables validated by the customer along any point in time during execution (of course after QC) as per the project management plan.

So, if the options given includes during execution, will that be the best answer?

share the question so i get more idea about it... few points

1. We should not assume that there is any serial thing in executing in monitoring... every day we may do executing and monitoring, so these two process groups run in parallel.

PMBOK Figure page 54 "Figure 3-4. Project Boundaries" clearly shows that monitoring and control activities are happening all the time.

2. Whenever we are looking at variance of evaluating something against plan it is monitoring.

Quampus question
When should the Validate Scope process be done
A. At the end of the project
B. At the beginning of the project
C. At the end of each phase of the project
D. During the execution of the project.

The answer given is C.

To me the validate scope need not be at the end of each phase, it can happen anytime during execution as per the customer requirement as identified in the plan.

Please let me know whether this is correct.

I agree with Harin4627 and Saket that validate scope is not necessarily happen only at end of phase.
The project team may send the deliverable for the customer acceptance in the execution phase as well.

Thanks Harin4627 :)

Saket, we need to correct or re-phrase this question.

From PMBOK....isnt this why validate scope needed at end of each phase correct?

The closure of a phase ends with some form of transfer or hand-off of the work product produced as the
phase deliverable. This phase end represents a natural point to reassess the activities underway and to
change or terminate the project if necessary. This point may be referred to as a stage gate, milestone,
phase review, phase gate or kill point. In many cases, the closure of a phase is required to be approved
in some form before it can be considered closed.

I suggest solve questions from authentic sources. Such questions might deviate your actual study hours and plan.

I myself completed PMP and not attempted such questions. That will make you to be more focused
