Effort Duration and time elapsed

Postby rajatahaali Mon Apr 17, 2017 10:44 am

All of these effort duration and time elapsed appear to be the same thing. Can you please clarify differences in these three terms .

these terms are needed during developing SND for your project
Effort is the number of work units/staff hours required to complete the activity.
Duration is the total time (excluding holidays/vacation/leave) to complete the activities based on the resources available to the project
Elapsed time is the calendar time ((excluding holidays/vacation/leave) or span required to complete the activities based on the resources available.

e.g.:
Developing a new APP for iphone is estimated to take 800 hours of effort.

If there are 10 agilist committed to 8 hours per day, the duration would be 1000 days
(Effort = 800 hours, Duration = 10 workdays, Elapsed time = 2 weeks)

If there is 1 agilist committed to 8 hours per day, the duration would be 1000 days
(Effort = 800 hours, Duration = 100 workdays, Elapsed time = 20 weeks)
